The medication merry go round

Today's blog is about the cycle of medication we can find ourselves on when dealing with a health condition whether it is physical and/or emotional and the interactions these medications can have on each other and how that medication list may change on a regular basis.

Having the fortune to live in a time when there are some incredible medication resources available to us, well I think that makes us very lucky and I am beyond thankful for that. I will happily continue to be directed by the specialists in this field but it doesn't stop me from occasionally being overwhelmed.

I will always be grateful that we get where we need to be through the diligence of our amazing health professionals but it can also make me smile and be frustrated in equal measures.

My blog is about the “merry-go-round" where you are prescribed the right medication only to find it may then need to be also balanced by a different dosage or a different medication.

I look at it like a bit like a maths equation when x = y+z x b and then ÷ f.

I would like to share my ideas on how I cope but I fully appreciate the way you approach things might be different.

Ask questions to help understand why you're taking each medication, and any potential interactions there may be. I know I have said this before but don't let your hand hover over that search engine button 😄. Instead make a journal of every single question and thought that pops in your head and when you attend any appointments, ask the specialist/doctor who will give you informed and accurate answers. You can talk to them about any concerns you may have. They will be able to help you to manage your concerns. When it comes to our health, knowing the correct facts is what will help keep us on the right path.

I cannot stress this enough: do not stop any medication unless you are directed to do so by a medical professional. All I am saying is discuss the "merry-go-round" feeling itself. Let your doctor know if the process is impacting you emotionally.

It's normal to occasionally feel frustrated, so allow yourself to feel these emotions or like me you could keep a journal. Then you can see how things get better with time.

Some days may be harder than others, and that's okay, again pop it in your journal, it will help ☺️.

Have patience, I know that's an easy one for me to say but I have been on my journey for a number of years and I have learnt so much along the way ️.

My break in the clouds today is about doing something that can lead you to something else and then on and on from there.

It was when my hubby and I moved to our first home. It needed a lot of work, which was fine, we were looking forward to the challenge. A small extension has been added at the back of the house and it had a large window and a somewhat draughty back door. The window did have curtains but they were somewhat ragged and grimy so wanted to tackle these as soon as possible. I had the great idea to try and get not only new curtains but a door curtain as well. So off I went and managed to bag myself a real bargain - and they all matched. It would mean some alterations but I am quite handy with a needle and thread so off I set with gusto. Down came the old curtains and I even got them in the bin before the bin lorry arrived. Result 😆! Unfortunately I then got so carried away that I not only shortened the curtains for the window but managed to shorten them all to the same length! It was only at the point that I started to hang them I realized what I had done. Yes, they were all the same length and all matched but I now had a door curtain that only went half way down the door - doh!!

My husband could hardly stand for laughing so much at what I had done. So off to the shops again I went. I am pleased to say we did find a lovely door curtain that, though wasn't the same as the window curtains, did compliment them well and it hung for quite a few years until we had the door changed for a double glazed one.

I suppose what I am saying is that we got there eventually ☺️ Thanks for reading and virtual hugs to you all.
